The renovation respects and preserves the building’s heritage character while upgrading it to serve as a modern, functional space for arts and cultural programming.
The Ronald McDonald House expansion is a vital and compassionate project that will significantly enhance support for families with children receiving medical care. The 25,555-square-foot addition will nearly double the House’s capacity, increasing the number of private family suites from 14 to 36. This much-needed expansion will ensure that more families can stay together, close to the hospital, during some of the most difficult and emotional times in their lives.
The new wing has been thoughtfully designed to create a warm and welcoming environment. It will feature multiple family lounges and TV rooms to foster connection and relaxation, alongside a larger, fully equipped communal kitchen that allows families to prepare meals with ease. Quiet dining areas will offer peaceful spaces for reflection and nourishment. An elevator will improve accessibility throughout the building, ensuring all areas are easy to navigate for residents of all ages and abilities.
Built with care and intention, the expansion will be both sustainable and inclusive. It is targeting Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification, meeting the highest standards for barrier-free design, and will be constructed to LEED Gold certification requirements, promoting environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and long-term performance.
More than just a building, this expansion reflects a deep commitment to supporting families when they need it most—offering comfort, community, and hope during their child’s healthcare journey.
