Ottawa Hospice Care

Hospice Care Ottawa provides compassionate, high-quality care to people and their caregivers from the time of diagnosis with a progressive life-limiting illness through their palliative and end-of-life journey, at no charge.

At Ronald McDonald House, we are dedicated to providing a warm, safe, affordable, and compassionate environment for families traveling long distances to find care for their seriously ill children.

Located in Ottawa, the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre is a non-profit, live-in, community-based agency dedicated to helping youth and families across Ontario overcome substance use and related issues, and achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Boys And Girls Club - BGC

BGC Ottawa is a free, community-based child and youth-serving organization that provides vital programs and services to over 5,000 young members each year.

Serving over 19 neighborhoods in Ottawa, BGC operates four clubhouses located throughout the city, a satellite location in Kanata, and an overnight camp in Eganville.

Ottawa Food Bank

The Ottawa Food Bank is a cornerstone charity dedicated to ensuring healthy, accessible, and sustainable food for everyone in the National Capital Region.

Dennis Laurin

FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN

Dennis is a builder and entrepreneur. After completing high school, he received industry training at St. Lawrence and Algonquin Colleges, followed by additional professional studies at Dalhousie University. In 1985, Dennis founded Laurin and has since guided the company’s evolution from a heritage renovation firm to an organization that has constructed millions of square feet of commercial buildings and hundreds of residential apartment units.

Alongside his entrepreneurial endeavors, Dennis balances a dynamic career with personal passions. He enjoys motorsports, specifically through the maintenance and restoration of vintage cars. Dennis is also a committed supporter of various philanthropic causes. Dennis was the recipient of a Governor General’s Commendation, as well as an Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner’s Citation for Bravery.

Travis Grimes​

President

As the President of Laurin, Travis leads the company’s strategic direction and overall operations, ensuring that Laurin continues to set new standards in construction project delivery. His leadership is rooted in a deep understanding of the construction industry, a passion for building strong teams, and a commitment to delivering exceptional results for clients.

Travis began his career in construction as a labourer working for his family’s roofing company during the summers, where he developed a deep respect for the trades and recognized the skill, dedication, and craftsmanship that bring projects to life. Before becoming CEO, he held various leadership roles, overseeing engineering, design, procurement, construction, and real estate development. With over 20 years of experience, he has successfully led large-scale projects, driven strategic growth, and managed significant capital investments across Canada and internationally.

Recognized as a dynamic leader in the industry, Travis is a strong advocate for innovation and operational excellence. His ability to navigate market challenges and embrace new technologies ensures that Laurin remains at the forefront of the construction industry, continuously delivering high-quality, purpose-built solutions.

Travis is a dedicated mentor and industry advocate, committed to developing the next generation of construction professionals. He fosters a culture where collaboration, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement drive success. His belief in building more than just structures—but legacies of quality, trust, and lasting impact—ensures that every Laurin project stands the test of time.

Jim Walker

Vice President, Construction

Starting his career in a family-owned general contracting business before advancing to some of Canada’s largest builders, Jim has developed a diverse and specialized skill set, allowing him to leverage the right tools to tackle project challenges of any scale, whether contractual or technically complex. With experience leading teams that adapt to diverse client needs and assembling high-performing teams tailored to evolving construction markets, Jim brings strategic leadership and deep industry insight to every project.

Jim has played a pivotal role in delivering some of the most technically complex projects in Canada over the past 20 years. His expertise has helped shape the skylines of Canadian cities, contributing to innovative and iconic structures that define our built environment and pave the way for the future.  He is well-versed in all project delivery models, including Construction Management, Design-Build, Stipulated Lump Sum, as well as newer approaches such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and alliance contracts. Additionally, Jim serves as a board member of the Integrated Project Delivery Alliance of Canada.

Jim focuses on aligning project objectives to deliver the best outcomes for clients, consultants, and subtrades. His dedication to quality and efficiency has earned him a strong reputation in the Canadian construction industry as a reliable and forward-thinking professional. With a proactive approach, Jim ensures that every project is executed to the highest standards, consistently driving successful results.

Maryanne Hemmerich

Director, Administration

As the Director of Administration at Laurin, Maryanne leads the Finance and Administration department, providing strategic leadership in financial management and operational efficiency. Known for her reliability, accountability, and dedication, she is the go-to leader for driving efficiency and innovation. Maryanne ensures the company remains competitive by implementing cutting-edge IT and finance processes while continuously enhancing operational effectiveness.

Maryanne began her career in Montreal’s garment industry, building a strong foundation in accounting before transitioning to the construction sector. After moving to Ottawa over 24 years ago, she joined Laurin as an Accounts Payable Clerk. Through expertise, leadership, and dedication, she advanced into key financial and administrative roles, growing alongside the company.

A steadfast advocate for employee well-being, Maryanne plays a critical role in fostering a positive workplace culture. She leads key company initiatives, including holiday celebrations, employee recognition programs, and team-building activities, ensuring an engaged and motivated workforce. Her commitment to both operational excellence and team development continues to be instrumental in Laurin’s success.

Samantha Andre

Director of People and Culture

Samantha is an experienced construction professional who has spent over 15 years building her career in the industry. She began in interior design before transitioning into the general contracting world, where she became known for her meticulous attention to detail and collaborative leadership style.

Now serving as Director of People and Culture, Samantha brings a practical, field-informed perspective to human resources. She works closely with leadership and site teams to foster a positive workplace culture, support employee development, and align people strategies with business goals. Her experience on both the project and people sides of the business gives her a unique ability to connect with teams and implement programs that reflect the realities of construction work.

Throughout her career, Samantha has demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, combined with a focus on innovation, process improvement, and guiding change. She is committed to creating workplaces where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow.

Samantha holds an Advanced Diploma with Honours in Interior Design, is a LEED® Accredited Professional, and is currently pursuing her Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

Max Laurin

General Counsel

As General Counsel at Laurin, Max oversees the evaluation of opportunities and contracts to ensure strategic alignment and seamless coordination across all Laurin projects.

Max began his construction career as a labourer and machine operator, working summers throughout high school and university until completing his legal education. After articling at a mid-sized firm in Ottawa, he transitioned in-house, where he now delivers practical solutions to complex construction challenges and commercial opportunities.

He has a Dual Bachelors (Hons.) in History and Political Science from Trinity College at the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Edinburgh. Max is a member of both the Ontario Bar and the Scottish Bar, and has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba, and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta.

Outside of legal practice, Max enjoys hockey and golf. He was a proud member of the Edinburgh Eagles, back-to-back National Champions in the British Universities Ice Hockey Association, and continues to play today.

Habitat’s homeownership program offers more than just housing; it sets families up to be successful homeowners who are invested in their homes and in their community. The benefits of owning a long-term stable Habitat home are many. They include reduced reliance on social housing and food banks, better educational, financial and employment outcomes and improved health and overall wellbeing for families.

LAURIN’s engagement is vital to Habitat Greater Ottawa mission of building safe, affordable housing, as it brings together resources, and shared values to strengthen local impact. Ottawa Hospice Care

Hospice Care Ottawa provides compassionate, high-quality care to people and their caregivers from the time of diagnosis with a progressive life-limiting illness through their palliative and end-of-life journey, at no charge. We offer residential hospice care, bereavement care, and community hospice care programs, including in-home support, day hospice, and caregiver support. Our services meet the highest care standards in a setting that closely reflects a comfortable home environment.

Ronald McDonald House

At Ronald McDonald House, we are dedicated to providing a warm, safe, affordable, and compassionate environment for families traveling long distances to find care for their seriously ill children. The House is 167 steps from the children’s hospital, and offers all the comforts of home, including weekly meals, pet therapy, and friendship between the other families also staying at RMHC Ottawa. For 40 years, the House has operated with a waitlist, so the current expansion from 14 to 36 suites will ensure that families won’t have to be turned away to stay in a hotel and can focus solely on caring for their family.

The Ottawa Hospital

The Ottawa Hospital has a vision to reshape the future of healthcare across the region, and The Ottawa Hospital Foundation is supporting this vision through its $500M Campaign to Create Tomorrow — the most ambitious fundraising campaign in the city’s history. The Campaign will help take research to unprecedented heights and contribute to the development of one of the most technologically advanced and patient-centered research hospitals in the country.

Cornerstone Women

Cornerstone Housing for Women is a vital Ottawa-based organization that provides emergency shelter, supportive housing, and essential services to over 300 women and gender-diverse individuals each day. As a community ministry of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, Cornerstone works to end homelessness by offering safe, stable housing and compassionate support. Through donations, volunteerism, and outreach programs, they empower women to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Dave Smith Treatment Centre

Located in Ottawa, the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre is a non-profit, live-in, community-based agency dedicated to helping youth and families across Ontario overcome substance use and related issues, and achieve a healthier lifestyle. With separate evidence-based programs tailored to the specific needs of youth, it is the only Centre of its kind in Eastern Ontario.

As part of our work on the David Smith Youth Treatment Centre, LAURIN extended our support by donating and constructing an additional tool shed for the facility. This contribution was made to enhance the Centre’s resources and provide added value to the therapeutic and operational activities offered on-site.

Each holiday season, we proudly sponsor the Angel Tree program, helping to bring joy and essential gifts to children and families in need. We also support the Club’s broader initiatives as a sponsor of the Morning Social, an annual event that raises critical funds to sustain year-round programming for thousands of young people across Ottawa.

Ottawa Food Bank

The Ottawa Food Bank is a cornerstone charity dedicated to ensuring healthy, accessible, and sustainable food for everyone in the National Capital Region. In the 2023–24 fiscal year alone, their network of 98 community food programs served a record-breaking 556,000+ visits, distributing over 8.5 million pounds of food and essentials. Through partnerships with nearly 100 agencies, dedicated volunteers, and generous donors, they work to improve food access, grow capacity, innovate, and advocate for systemic change. With rising demand, particularly among children, single adults, and working families, the Ottawa Food Bank continues to lead efforts to alleviate hunger while advocating for long-term solutions.

LAURIN is proud to support the Ottawa Food Bank through our participation in multiple charity golf events throughout the summer. These include Swings for Kids, the Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) Golf Tournament, the CHEO Golf Tournament, and the Quest Golf Classic. Each of these events provides a valuable opportunity to give back to the community while raising funds and awareness for important causes, including local food security
