This expansive project involved the construction of a large-scale office, processing, and warehouse facility to replace the existing metal recycling infrastructure on site.
As one of Ottawa’s largest free-span steel structures, the warehouse features an impressive 150-foot horizontal and 40-foot vertical clear span, enabling unobstructed movement and operation of large-scale hoisting equipment.
The innovative design includes cast-in-place concrete storage bins elevated 20 feet above grade, strategically surrounding the processing areas to support efficient material flow and operations. Below grade, the facility incorporates complex foundation systems and massive 9-foot-deep steel transfer girder trusses that contribute to the building’s structural integrity and functionality.
Externally, the facility is clad in insulated wall panels and features modern architectural elements such as accent curtainwall glazing and Alucobond finishes on the office component, delivering both visual impact and long-term performance. Despite the complexity of the build, site operations continued uninterrupted for the duration of the 18-month construction schedule, underscoring the project’s careful planning and execution.
The completed facility stands as both a functional upgrade and an architectural enhancement to the surrounding industrial business park, demonstrating the team’s ability to deliver technically demanding, large-scale industrial infrastructure with precision and care.
