Your Impact at LAURIN
This role is directly responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial reporting functions at LAURIN. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller ensures compliance with internal procedures and provides guidance and management to the accounting and finance department.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, provide mentorship and assist all functions within Accounting Department, including AP and AR cycles.
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections, providing insights and recommendations to the Director of Finance.
- Monitor and report on key financial metrics, identifying trends and variances to inform decision-making.
- Stay current with industry trends, accounting regulations, and best practices to ensure continued understanding of the evolving financial and regulatory landscape.
- Assist in responses to requests from provincial and federal tax authorities.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies, as well as compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the preparation of internal and external financial reports including, but not limited to WIP analysis, Cashflow, Quarterly Income Statement Analysis, Overhead Analysis, AP/AR Aging, Equipment Rental Billings, and Labor Up-Charges.
- Oversee month/year end close and related account reconciliations.
- Oversee the year end financial statement review and act as the primary contact for auditors and other external stakeholders.
- Prepare and/or review company wide/job specific budgets and forecasts.
- Oversee all tax and regulatory filings including, but not limited to GST/HST returns, payroll remittance filings, T2s, T4s, T5018s, etc.
- Maintain the ERP system as needed.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and mentorship while developing the finance team.
- Assist in the design and implementation of new internal processes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required by the organization’s needs.
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including 2-4 years in a management or lead role.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Expertise in financial statement preparation and analysis.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial planning.
- Experience in regulatory compliance, tax filings, and audits.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, with ability to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Experience with general ledger management and account reconciliations.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication with management, auditors, vendors and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of finance rules and regulations relevant to the construction industry.
- Ability to maintain confidential and highly sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize accordingly to effectively manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel skills.
Education & Professional Credentials
- Degree or diploma in Accounting or equivalent.
- CPA preferred.
Estimated Compensation
The salary range for this role is $110,000 — $140,000, based on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed in your personalized offer.
