The Francois Dupuis Recreation Centre has been built to LEED Silver standards and is also the first pool facility in the City of Ottawa to use the Myrtha modular wall technology, known for its reduced carbon footprint.
The Francois Dupuis Community Center is a complex, high-quality municipal project that earned the “Best of Canada” design award in the Institutional Interiors category by Canadian Interiors magazine in 2014. This prestigious national award recognizes outstanding interior design that demonstrates innovation, functionality, and a positive user experience. LAURIN transformed a greenfield site into a state-of-the-art community space, overseeing all aspects of construction, from initial civil works, piling, and concrete foundations to the installation of sophisticated curtain wall systems, structural steel framing, and advanced mechanical and electrical systems. A key feature of this facility was the Myrtha Modular pool wall technology, which was imported from Italy and integrated into the construction. The project also included radiant floor heating, a PVC roofing system, and extensive hard and soft landscaping, all designed to enhance functionality and aesthetic appeal. One of the most significant challenges was executing intricate design elements, such as exterior brickwork crafted to mimic rolling waves and three bright orange tubular structures representing fish jumping out of the water. Achieving these artistic effects without compromising structural integrity required precision, expert craftsmanship, and careful material selection.
