The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre is a purpose-built residential facility designed to support youth facing substance use and related challenges in achieving healthier lifestyles. The project consolidated three previously separate program locations into a single modern campus, improving access to care and creating a more integrated treatment environment.
The facility includes a 30-bed residential care area designed for live-in treatment programs. Separate living areas provide residents with privacy and comfort while maintaining access to shared amenities, including kitchens, living rooms, and outdoor courtyard spaces that encourage community and social connection. Program spaces throughout the building support the Centre’s comprehensive treatment model, including classrooms for academic programming, counselling and meeting rooms, dining areas, conference rooms, and administrative offices, along with a gym and wellness areas that promote physical activity and overall well-being.
Designed to create a welcoming and therapeutic environment, the facility maximizes natural light and incorporates mass timber elements and double-height ceilings within common areas, creating open, bright gathering spaces for residents and staff. Secure internal corridors connect program areas throughout the building, supporting both safety and efficient day-to-day operations. Together, these elements create a supportive, thoughtfully designed facility that allows the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre to deliver integrated treatment, education, and life-skills programming for youth across the region.
